Important Warning for New Immigrants

Do NOT transfer rental bonds or rent money to an overseas bank account before arriving. Do NOT pay for an apartment you haven't seen in person or had verified by a trusted local. Rental scams specifically target immigrants. If an offer looks too good to be true, ask us to review it first.

The 'No History' Trap

Real estate agents in Australia rely heavily on your 'tenant ledger'—a record of your past renting behavior. When you are new to the country, you have no ledger. This means your applications are often automatically pushed to the bottom of the pile.

Share Happiness volunteers teach you how to build a powerful 'Newcomer Renter Profile'. We help you compile bank statements, employment letters, overseas references, and personal statements to convince agents you are a safe, reliable tenant.

"I went to 15 inspections and applied for 10 apartments with zero success. A Share Happiness volunteer reviewed my application, added a cover letter explaining my visa and savings, and called the real estate agent to vouch for me. I was approved two days later."

Common Questions

Does Share Happiness help find housing?

No, we are an advisory and support service. We do not own properties or pay rent for immigrants. We teach you how to secure your own housing in the private market.

What is a Rental Bond?

A bond is a security deposit (usually 4 weeks' rent) held by the government body 'Rental Bonds Online', NOT the landlord. We ensure your money is deposited correctly and legally.

Can I apply before I arrive in Australia?

Real estate agents rarely approve applicants who have not inspected the property in person. We highly recommend booking a temporary Airbnb/hostel for your first two weeks, and applying for long-term rentals once you arrive.
